Restoring antique furniture can be timely but well worth it for those pieces of sentimental or financial value. At Carmel we have two different processes available to use when restoring, complete or partial.
Complete restoration entails complete removal of fabric, padding and suspension to expose the bare frame. The frame is then strengthened by re-gluing all joints and re-applying the suspension and padding to ensure that the piece is restored to its original condition.
Partial restoration entails replacement of requested and necessary parts and fabric. Typically the frame is kept as is.
Both processes start with a highly detailed inspection to fully understand how the piece was produced, constructed and finished. This ensures that when restoration is complete the value is retained and is true to the period. Regardless of which process is chosen, the patinas are always untouched to maintain the original finish and preserve any additional history. When fabric is replaced great effort is put in to insure that the upholstery details are exactly the same as the original.
Our sales staff is available to assist you in your selection for an appropriate fabric or you can provide your own.
